That's it for another fifty years!

The bicentenary celebrations in Argentina passed off peacefully; the reported millions who availed themselves of the free bus rides congregated in the capital to enjoy the stunning displays laid on for them.  Every city, town and village seems to have done all they could to show that they weren’t being left behind.

Now it’s over, the lights and bunting have been put away for another day, and the usual discussions have started over whether too much money was spent on it all...

Instead of putting one representative picture on my blog, (not mine of course) with so many to choose from, I’ve opted instead to refer you to this link.  If you like pictures, do please take a look at this couple of dozen, taken in Buenos Aires during the festivities, I found them very moving.

I'll be back to band news next time (as soon as I can write it, will try not to leave it a whole week before the next post).

A day out in the city of Bath - buskers and characters

In the quadrangle outside the Roman Baths, buskers and entertainers congregate every day to entertain the visitors.  This young man was playing the violin - on a tightrope...

... yes, really.

These two opt for the more conventional pose...

My camera club friends with me were braver than I was, and asked this young man to pose...

This for me is the classic British bobby.

Bath door knocker.... and following the idea shamelessly pinched from other bandit blogs, this one has been included to show that as at this morning I've lost a total of 23kg since I was banded 18 months ago.

Glad you pinched the idea ... that's a wonderful way to represent your loss! I'll have to "borrow" that too someday. :D
oh and a hearty congratulations on your 23kg loss!

I agree-a picture is worth a thousand words so congrats on the 23 kg. You need to update your sidebar now. Glad things are moving in the right direction!

woohooo...good for you! and the people pics theme is lovely. I am trying my hand at a bit of photography but nature seems easier than people. I'm very impressed by your skills every time I see your pictures. is the first picture bounced off the store window or facing it or what? it is very nifty looking.

Thank you! The side bar with my monthly weigh-ins is quite a tyrant - I've plumped for updating it on the 17th of the month because it's when I was banded, and when it's not updated I'm afraid - predictably - it's not laziness, it's because I haven't lost, or I've gained, and I'm sort of hoping to lose the gain before I own up to it retrospectively, if you know what I mean. I'm not due to put anything up till 17th June, and I hope to goodness I can stay at least at 91.5 so I can record it...

Getting under the 200lb mark, into the 13 stone mark, and under the 90 kg mark is roughly all the same stage, and I'm really looking forward to this as it feels like a proper milestone worth mentioning, but I hate having goals because I don't want to fail, so I'll just plod on.

Tina - re the picture of the tightrope walker: he has the store window behind him, if you look at the next pic taken a minute later (or before, can't remember). I should have cropped the left hand side, which is untidy. I do love taking candids, but I'm a bit shy of snapping the general public (these people after all were entertainers). This afternoon for example I was taking pictures by a lake in Portishead, and saw a man wheeling a buggy coming towards me with adorable triplets, all dressed the same (shame but nice for a pic!), and I was a chicken, a yellow livered idiot, and didn't snap them because he would have known I was doing it. What a wuz.

Or 46 tubs of margarine!!! But you should just try picking up four 5kg bags of potatoes - bet you'll struggle and you've lost 3kgs more than that. Take a bow lovely lady - very well done. Zxx

Thank you both. I've got my fingers tightly crossed that I'm slowly and gently on my way down again. One thing that may have helped is that I'm swimming every week, and lately we've been going an hour before it closes, at 9 p.m. There are very few people around, so the water is like glass, which encourages me to do more lengths (I confess I feel a bit bad tempered when I have to swim in choppy water!). On several occasions I've managed 30 lengths instead of the usual 16 or so, and that may be helping.

The photos of the Argentinian celebration in the link, as well as yours of Bath, are fantastic.
